Looks like the spec for 802.16a is approved (Thanks yournet, on dev-seattlewireless), it's supposed to deal with more of a longhaul strategy of metropolitan wireless networks. The site for the working-group also mentions other groups of subsets, I'm not sure which one makes sense for which application, I haven't read any of them yet. Of course, it depends on who's making the equipment.
